The Huron Perth Catholic District School Board is looking to be more inclusive for Pride Month this June.
The HPCDSB approved changes to its Flag Protocol Policy that will permit the flying of a Board-designed flag of inclusion.
The flag is set to be flown during the month of June at St. Anne’s Catholic Secondary School in Clinton, St. Michael Catholic Secondary School in Stratford, and the Catholic Education Center.
Officials say the flying of the flags is meant to acknowledge the students and staff in their system who identify as LGBTQ+.
From a HPCDSB news release:
“Our Catholic Schools are grounded in Gospel values. This inclusionary flag is not a statement about diverging from the teachings of the Catholic Church. Rather this flag is a symbol that recognizes and respects the dignity and value of each person and that our schools are safe places of inclusion. We are all called to love one another as we journey together toward the Father.”
