More details have been released about a military training exercise in Goderich.
Members of the Canadian Armed Forces will be conducting emergency exercises in Huron and Bruce Counties between Friday, May 3rd and Sunday, May 5th.
Armed Forces spokesperson Paul Verheye says the exercise is done to help develop the skills required to help Canadians in emergency situations such as floods, fires, or extreme weather.
According to a news release, “soldiers will be conducting fire fighting training, wellness checks, simulated search and rescue operations, establishing cooling centres, as well as other activities.”
Wellness checks or “door knocks” will be performed in Goderich on Saturday, May 4th, to simulate what would happen if soldiers were asked to check on the well-being of residents during an actual emergency.
Verheye says the simulated wellness checks will involve no collection of information, and soldiers will not ask you any private health questions.
If you do not wish to speak with soldiers, Verheye says armed forces members will leave information from the county for you to review at your leisure.
If there is a “No Trespassing” sign clearly visible at the entry to the property, then soldiers will move along, according to Curr.
