Huron County Council now as a better picture of what it will cost for a permanent paramedic base in Brussels.
During the meeting on March 22nd of this year, council gave approval for staff to proceed with Huron East to get an estimate for construction for a new base.
The county received one tender from Domm Construction Ltd. for a total cost of $1,175,000 plus HST.
That estimate is broken down into $243,000 to expand the existing fire hall, $729,000 for a new EMS station, and the remaining $49,500 for new asphalt.
In a report presented to council, Domm Construction estimates that the work will take 24 weeks.
In the original agreement between Huron County and the municipality of Huron East, the approach was that Huron East would be the lead for the project and procure the work, give its input on the work needed, and debenture the County’s share of the capital cost.
Huron East would also invoice the County for rent.
For its part, Huron County is expected to be responsible for cleaning the new paramedic station, supply consumables, and be responsible for a security system and insurance.
In terms of total cost, Huron East would be responsible for funding 25% of the cost, with Huron County covering 75%.
