Goderich Town Council met for a brief but special meeting last night, as they held their inaugural meeting of the 2022-2026 term.
The meeting started with opening remarks from Chief Administrative Officer Janice Hallahan, followed by each member of council being sworn in.
Myles Murdoch was first sworn in as mayor, and was then followed by the only other returning member from the previous council, as Trevor Bazinet was sworn in as deputy mayor.
Murdoch and Bazinet are joined this term by five new councillors: Leah Noel, Liz Petrie, Randy Carroll, Allison Segeren, and John Thompson.
As noted during the final meeting of the previous council, this is the most gender-balanced council that the town of Goderich has ever had.
Mayor Murdoch then made his inaugural speech with a special Land Acknowledgement statement, then thanked his family for their support.
He quickly mentioned some municipal projects that the group would likely be addressing over this new term, and at one point said that “These next four years will be so exciting.”
