The Mayor of Goderich says he expects no issues from the province, when paid parking is introduced along Goderich’s three beaches in 2021.
Mayor John Grace’s comments follow criticism from Premier Doug Ford for what he calls price-gouging along shorelines in Barrie and Orillia.
Barrie recently introduced $10 hourly parking along their waterfront, or a daily maximum of $50.
In Orillia, local taxpayers were exempt from fees for boat launching, but visitors are temporarily required to pay $50 for each vessel.
Both cities introduced parking as a response to high demand from tourists during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although there is currently no fee to park at the Goderich beach, Grace says the town has implemented a plan to turn away beachgoers if by-law and law enforcement decide the shoreline is becoming too crowded.
The Mayor has confirmed residents of Goderich will be allotted parking passes by town hall, when paid parking is introduced along the shoreline next year.
