YMCA Launches Strong Kids Campaign

Huron County | by Peter Jackson
The drive hopes to raise $70,000 to help disadvataged kids access Y programs

Once again the Goderich-Huron YMCA is focusing on helping children take part in programs, who couldn't ordinarily afford to do so.

The 2018 Y Strong Kids fundraising campaign is officially under way, with a goal of $70,000.

Interim President & CEO of YMCA Southwestern Ontario, Kathi Lomas-McGee tells Country 104.9 News that Bruce Power and the Huron County Health Unit have already donated $5,000 each.

Lomas-McGee mentions that the Strong Kids campaign raised $62,000 last year, which was a significant drop from the 2016 total of $78,000.

She points out that one reason for the drop is because the Y competes for donations with a number of other worthy community causes

Lomas-McGee points to the need for Y officials to reinforce the message that Strong Kids helps children and their families take advantage of what the Y has to offer.
