Teacher Job Action Escalates In Huron-Perth

Huron-Perth | by Fadi Didi
Public elementary and secondary students to be effected by work action this week, as teachers bargain for a new contract.

Public elementary school students in Huron and Perth counties will have three days off this week.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) is staging a province-wide walkout Tuesday, as the union continues to bargain for a new contract with the Ministry of Education.

Tuesday's walkout follows similar action in select school boards Monday, including the Avon Maitland District School Board.

ETFO's co-horts in the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF) have also announced a walkout in select boards on Thursday, which includes the AMDSB.

Because many elementary school staff are unionized under OSSTF, the move will close all schools in the AMDSB on Thursday.

Meantime, the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) is ramping up job action this week, with union officials saying they will only undertake "teaching and supervision duties."
